Hello, everyone! I’m so excited to write this post, as it’s my very first one!!! So, thanks so much for taking the time to read it… it means the world to me! 🙂
So… I wanted it to be about something close to the heart and soul of what I believe and what Blueberry Living & Co is all about… JOY!!!
The joy of living in a space you adore and love spending time in. Because before we think of style, we need to think of the emotions and the feelings that we want our homes to evoke…
Imagine how heavenly would be to open your front door and being greeted by your favourite colours and a collection of things your love… a home so happy and gorgeous that would make you pop!!!! Just priceless, right?! Studies have proven that our surroundings can influence how we feel… So why not to add a few touches of happiness to our spaces?
I’ve put together 6 super easy ways for you to do it… Seriously… you can’t go wrong with it!!!
#1 ADD COLOUR
Can you think of a better way to start this list?! Colour is life!!! It’s so powerful, that very often people are afraid of using it, and it’s a shame, because even the smallest touches, like a little cushion or a lampshade, can create a huge impact on the mood of your home. My favourite happy colour is yellow, but orange and pink are also great, as they bring a sense of fun and positiveness… you can add little touches of one of them or if you are feeling extra brave, just mix and match this gorgeous trio in accessories and soft furnishings. Just don’t forget that when mixing these energetic colours, it’s always a good idea to balance it out keeping the base neutral with a calming and fresh colour palette, like pale blues, shades of white or light shades of grey for example.
#2 LEAVE SPACE TO BREATH
A happy home is also a relaxing home, so de-clutter and leave room to breathe. Throw away everything that you don’t need and maybe designate a place (a room, a cupboard or just a drawer) to hide away the everyday mess (mine is the sideboard in our dining room). If you organise your things and take the unnecessary clutter out of sight, you will certainly feel more at easy and happier.
#3 SURROUND YOURSELF WITH WHAT MAKES YOU SMILE
This is SO important… your home should be a collection of what you love. If it doesn’t make you feel good, just toss it away and make room for what puts a smile on your face! There are so many ways to display the things you love… You could create a gallery wall with your favourite pics from your holidays and other objects that are close to your heart… or perhaps you could get a glass dome to put on display that little toy you had when you were a kid… or maybe just invest on that cashmere throw that you loved, but thought it was a bit pricey… if it will make your film nights cosier, than my lovely… it is well worth it! Oh… and if you love the botanical prints in the picture above… they are yours!!! Just click here!
#4 GET BLOOMING
Fresh flowers and plants have the power of bringing life, colour, scent and create the mood of an interior! And the best thing is that you don’t even need to make elaborate arrangements to display them… Just a few pretty blooms in a glass jar or a tin can make wonders to your home! Plus they are SO good for the soul!!!!
#5 LET THE SUN IN
Did you know that adding natural light to your home can improve your mood? So, replace heavy, thick curtains for lighter ones (linen ones are great), add some mirrors (hanging mirrors on the wall opposite a window is ideal) and keep the walls in lighter shades to bounce the light around! Then just soak up the sun and enjoy your home!
#6 MAKE IT SMELL AMAZING
The sense of smell is strongly linked to the memory + is also highly emotive. Who had never felt like stepped back in time after a hint of a known scent?! The other day I spent a good 20 min stalking a stranger at the garden centre, just because she was wearing the same perfume as my wonderful late grandma! Anyway… What I’m trying to say is… Make your home a sanctuary adding your favourite scents! It could be a gorgeous candle, a diffuser, some flowers or maybe just an apple and cinnamon cake baking in the oven!
Whatever scent you choose, just make sure you absolutely love it, and it’s connected to the feelings you want that particular room to evoke. For example… In our home… I usually have a very floral scent downstairs, as I want to evoke a “walking in garden” feeling, to connect with all the floral decor that we have around (here is my fave).
However, upstairs in our bedrooms, I prefer to have a more soothing smell, that reminds me of walks on the beach at sunset and relaxing in a hammock by the sea (here is my fave). Got it?! 😉
Hope you enjoyed these tips and got inspired to make a few happy tweaks around your place… and as thank you for reading this I want to give you a little gift… It’s a printable wall art I made for your home to help you to remember to keep smiling!
